Linda Blair, who was only five at the time, was able to get used to being on the radar. In the beginning, she was a child model and later as an actor, she got the role as Regan the girl who was possessed, from amongst 600 applicants in The Exorcist, (1973). Linda quickly gained world fame and won the Golden Globe, and seemed poised to get an Academy Award for that role, but when it leaked that certain parts of the part were not performed by Linda Blair (the demonic voice was dubbed in the voice of Mercedes McCambridge, and eight seconds of a stunt model were employed) that dream broke and that, along with the disappointment probably came the first blow that could have been the beginning of an A-list career. Over the next few years she had no trouble securing leading roles in a variety of pictures, including the hugely successful TV films Born Innocent (1974) (the top TV film of the year) as well as Sarah T. - Portrait of a Teenage Alcoholic (1975), as well as her role in the Exorcist sequel Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977). In 1977, she purchased cocaine on peer pressure at age 18, it led to her arrest and sentence of three years probation. Linda's time in Hollywood was cut to B films, and occasionally appearances on television after her well-publicized arrest on drugs possession.
